A bag making afternoon

Ta dah!  Finally I got round to making my little bag.  I've been wanting to make this for so long now.  The outer fabric is from a girls dress that I bought years ago in a charity shop with the intention of making this type of bag ... finally I actually got round to making it !  The lining is from my polkadot stash!

I'm super happy with how it came out considering I had no pattern and was basically winging it !!  However I did very much have the idea in my head based on a few bags I already have.
The main things I wanted were

1.  a small bag
2.  a long strap to wear across my shoulder
3. a slightly gathered front

I drew out a shape on a piece of paper and then just went for it.  Obviously I have made several bags before so I knew (kind of) what I was doing.

It's by no means perfect but I love it.

Next time I would use interfacing though as the fabric is very light.

I would also use a different strap as I am a little worried that the bag will eventually tear.

All I have to do now is decide what to add to the front?

Should it be a crocheted corsage?

A nice big button??

A homemade lace/button brooch?

Or should I just leave it plain?

Decisions Decisions.

What do you think?

  1. Oooooo, polka dot lining. It's gorgeous. I think I prefer the red button. What about a big wooden button sewn on with red or yellow thread ?
